When to change your tires in the autumn?

The sunset is getting earlier and earlier as the temperatures is quickly going down each day that goes by can certainly have us Canadians ask ourselves; Is it the time to change my summer tires for my winter tires?

So when should I change my tires?

First and foremost; It depends on your location! The answer will not be the same for Toronto when compared to Sudbury. Instead of relying on the first snowfall to catch you by surprise and to reduce the risks associated with cold weather driving, you should rely on the weather and your thermometer.

Quattro tires recommends that you install your winter tires as soon as the average outside temperature drops below 7* Celsius. It is at this temperature that the composition of summer tires will lose its grip exponentially and where the risk of snowfall or ice will increase rapidly.
*Note that in Quebec, you are legally obligated to equip your vehicle with tires bearing the severe-winter rating (3PMSF) pictogram by December 1st.

We invite our customers to check the weather forecasts of their cities in advance, in order to plan the delivery time of the tires and to make an appointment at the garage in order to change the tires. The closer winter approaches, the more difficult it will be to get an appointment at the garage.

For your safety and that of your family, do not wait for the first snowfall before installing your winter tires!

We’re often asked; Will my winter tires wear down faster during warmer autumn days?

In reality, the answer to this question is very simple; No* !

The rubber compound of modern tires allows greater flexibility and longevity, it is not a few milder days with a few more degrees that 7*C that will affect the service period of your winter tires.
* Tire wear greatly depends on their maintenance, your driving style, inflation pressure, regular tire rotations according to the manufacturer's recommendations and of course, the tires must be matched to the vehicle.
