MICHELIN : PORCHE GT3 RS NEW OFFICIAL TIRE

On May 20th, we learned that the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS will be equipped with Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

High Performance

Michelin’s tires have been designed to push the fastest sports cars’ performance to the limit. They can be used either for road or circuits. Larger than GT3’s tires, the Pilot Sport Cup 2 increases the average surface of ground contact by 20% in the front with a dimension of 265/35 ZR20 and 18% in the back with a dimension of 325/30 ZR21. This new change to the contact surface will enhance handling and grip of the vehicle.

Michelin’s tires high technology

To achieve the best performance, Michelin’s designers have developed “Bi-compound”. This new technology consists of two different mixtures of rubber on a tread, found both on the center and at the edges of the tread. This process is optimal for tire contact pressure, giving the Pilot Sport Cup 2 a life expectancy 50% longer than its predecessor, the Pilot Sport Cup +.

A new partnership?

By announcing its intention to equip all its latest vehicles with Michelin’s tires, notably the 911 GT3’, 918 Spyder and Cayman GT4, Porsche has demonstrated its trust to Michelin’s performance and quality. Is this the beginning of an alliance between the German carmaker and French tire manufacturer?
